David Bernstein and Louis Schusterman established D’Or Jewelry Co., manufacturing jewelers, in 1926. Located at 206 Broadway, New York, N.Y., the firm manufactured mountings for the jobbing trade, as well as gold and diamond jewelry.

Previously, David Bernstein worked at Bernstein & Sons, manufacturing jewelers, at the same address, 206 Broadway. Notably, in the roaring 1920s, 206 Broadway was a commercial building which housed several jewelry manufacturing companies.

In 1927, Louis Schusterman, formerly of S.B.S. Jewelry Co. and D’Or Jewelry Co. at 206 Broadway, opened his own factory and office at 71 Nassau Street. Schusterman began producing platinum and gold jewelry, as well as a special line of mounted cameos. However, just four years later, Louis Schusterman was arrested for concealing assets.

David Bernstein dissolved his partnership with Louis Schusterman, assumed all assets and liabilities, and purchased Louis Schusterman’s stake with outside capital. He continued to operate the business under the trade name D’Or Jewelry Co. at the same address.
