Born in 1961, Ginnie Johansen is a renowned designer, jeweler and artist based in Dallas, Texas. While still a college student, 18-year-old Ginnie created her first designer belt from braid and ribbons, which she then successfully sold. As a result, she began to think about the idea of starting her own business for the production of fashion accessories.

With the support of her father, an experienced businessman Gerald Charles Johansen (1931 –2017), her idea quickly became a reality. Founded in 1978, Ginnie Johansen Designs became a successful and rapidly growing business, with Ginnie, the president of the company, responsible for design and human resources, and her father for management and marketing.

In 1981, Ginnie had to leave Southern Methodist University after three years of study, as the business took up too much of her time. Within two years, GJD accessories were sold in thousands of stores and boutiques, with sales in the millions of dollars.

Ginnie Johansen Designs became a corporation in 1984, with 24-year-old Ginnie becoming president and her father, 51-year-old Jerry Johansen, chairman of the board and CEO. That same year, the corporation expanded its product range by launching jewelry, including jewelry made of precious metals.

Despite the variety of materials, designs and styles, Johansen jewelry follows a single direction of classic elegance and high quality. Marked “Ginnie Johansen” in script, or abbreviation “GJD”, her jewelry has become highly collectible.

Ginnie married Wayne in 1983 and they had three daughters together. In 1990, she left the business to focus on her family and raising her daughters. A deeply religious person, she claimed that it was God who led her down this path. Johansen also began painting in several styles, including some inspired by Scripture.

According to Opencorporates database, Ginnie Johansen Designs Co Inc ceased to exist in 1995.
