Star Art Jewelry Company History

The history of the jewelry manufacturing and wholesale company Star Art Jewelry Co began in 1944. Located at 795 Eddy Street, Providence, Star Art also manufactured jewelry under the brand names “Tradition” and “Jewels by Helene”.
According to the 1963 Jewelers’ Circular, the company known as Jewels by Helene was “Fashion leader for over 19 years in the production of fine gold filled and Sterling Silver Jewelry”. The company’s craftsmen created jewelry using 12-14 karat gold, 925 sterling silver, natural stones, art glass, rhinestones, Austrian crystals, artificial and cultured pearls.

The exquisite design of the jewelry reflects the fashion of the late 1940s – 1960s – brooches and pins with floral and leaf motifs, cameos in filigree frames, bracelets with scarabs, sets of necklaces and earrings. The marking of the jewelry includes “Star Art” or “Art” inside a five-pointed star, as well as an indication of the gold karat or sterling.
The company advertised its products widely in fashion magazines and Jewelers’ Circular. Very popular were jewelry sets of earrings and necklaces, which were often sold in beautiful branded boxes with gold-foiled tags.
In 1971, Star Art became part of Dansal Corporation, and the last mention of Star Art as part of Dansal Corporation was in 1990.
