New York Jeweler Nathan Koslow

Unjustly forgotten, Nathan Koslow (1898 – 1958) was a nationally-known jewelry designer and manufacturer of fabulous jewelry. He founded Nat Koslow Inc in 1934 and headed the firm bearing his name until his sudden death in 1958. The firm was located at 42 W. 48th St of 737 Park Avenue, New York.
Masterpieces of the jeweler’s art were designed in the Koslow workshop, which was an integral part of all their salons. Fabulous necklaces, bracelets, brooches and other glittering accessories featured glittering diamonds in smart interpretations.

Before founding his own jewelry company, Nat Koslow worked for many years in jewelry workshops gaining invaluable knowledge of the jewelry business, from design and creation of jewelry, to sales and business management. In the mid-1920s he was one of the founders of the Stein & Koslow jewelry firm.
The first mention of Stein & Koslow, the retail jewelry store of Lee Reich, 802 East Tremont Avenue, the Bronx, was in May 1923. The company appeared several times in New York Times crime reports in the 1920s and 1930s. Several times the firm became a target for robberies, as its store always contained diamonds, precious stones, gold and platinum jewelry.

Establishment of Nat Koslow Inc
The Stein-Koslow partnership ended in 1934 when Nathan Koslow founded his own business. From the very beginning, the company’s jewelry enjoyed a high reputation and was sought after by wealthy customers. Noteworthy, Nathan Koslow also created jewelry for other renowned brands.
Following Nathan Koslow’s sudden death of heart attack in 1958, his sons Alfred and Marvin took over the business. According to business directories, Nat Koslow Inc ceased to exist in 1967.

Advertised in prominent fashion magazines of the time, Koslow’s exquisite jewelry appeared on the cover of the Jeweler’s Circular November 1939 cover. It was diamond and cabochon sapphire choker, convertible into two bracelets and a clip. In addition, diamond and sapphire earrings; diamond hair clip of conventionalized wheat sheaf design; star sapphire ring, and diamond and sapphire bracelet.
Also, in November 1954 Nat Koslow jewelry graced the cover of Jewelers’ Circular, among other winners of Diamond Awards USA – Spaulding & Co, Tiffany, Seaman Schepps, Raymond Abrahams, and Elgin.
